SUMMARY:Webinar: Impulsivity and Online Sports Betting Behavior
DESCRIPTION:  \nAbout the Webinar\nThis presentation focuses on the complex relationship between impulsivity\, risky online sports betting behavior\, and the development of a gambling disorder. The findings are based on a longitudinal study of 427 regular online sports bettors\, which was funded by the ICRG. The presentation examines the temporal associations between different facets of impulsivity and gambling-related outcomes\, highlighting the importance of distinguishing between impulsive choice\, impulsive action\, and impulsive personality traits. \nThe results provide insights into the specific role of impulsivity facets in gambling disorder risk and underscore the need for multifactorial models to better understand the mechanisms underlying problematic gambling behavior. Implications for prevention and early intervention strategies will also be discussed. \n  \nAttendees will earn 1 continuing education hour. She received her Ph.D. in psychology in 2014 and her habilitation in 2020. Dr. Kräplin’s research examines the etiology of addictive behaviors\, particularly cognitive control and decision-making processes underlying gambling and other addictive behaviors. She is also interested in translating research findings into evidence-based prevention and intervention strategies. Dr. Kräplin is committed to open science and transparent research practices. \n
