SUMMARY:Webinar - Group Psychotherapy for Gambling Disorder
DESCRIPTION:Description\nThis presentation provides an in-depth overview of group psychotherapy for gambling disorder\, with a primary focus on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) group interventions. Participants will explore the theoretical foundations and evidence base supporting group treatment\, including comparisons between individual and group modalities and the mechanisms that make group therapy effective. The training addresses practical considerations for designing and facilitating CBT-based gambling groups\, including group structure\, logistics\, and common challenges. Core CBT skills commonly used in group settings—such as urge monitoring\, assertive communication\, mindfulness\, and cognitive restructuring—are reviewed with applied examples to support effective clinical implementation. \nLearning Objectives:\n\nTo be able to identify three characteristics of cognitive behavioral group therapy that are thought to underlie its therapeutic effects.\nTo be able to name three logistical considerations when designing a psychotherapy group for gambling disorder.\nTo be able to name and describe three cognitive behavioral skills that you can utilize in a group psychotherapy intervention for gambling disorder.\n\nRegister now! \nQuestions?\nContact us

SUMMARY:Webinar: Impulsivity and Online Sports Betting Behavior
DESCRIPTION:  \nAbout the Webinar\nThis presentation focuses on the complex relationship between impulsivity\, risky online sports betting behavior\, and the development of a gambling disorder. The findings are based on a longitudinal study of 427 regular online sports bettors\, which was funded by the ICRG. The presentation examines the temporal associations between different facets of impulsivity and gambling-related outcomes\, highlighting the importance of distinguishing between impulsive choice\, impulsive action\, and impulsive personality traits. \nThe results provide insights into the specific role of impulsivity facets in gambling disorder risk and underscore the need for multifactorial models to better understand the mechanisms underlying problematic gambling behavior. Implications for prevention and early intervention strategies will also be discussed. \n  \nAttendees will earn 1 continuing education hour. Agencies that have approved ICRG as a CE Provider include: \n\nThe International Center for Responsible Gaming is approved by NAADAC\, the Association for Addiction Professionals\, to offer continuing education (Provider # 100793).\nThe International Center for Responsible Gaming is approved by NBCC\, National Board of Certified Counselors\, as an Approved Continuing Education Provider\, ACEP No. 6474. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. The ICRG is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs.\nThe International Center for Responsible Gaming (ICRG) is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. The ICRG maintains responsibility for this program and its content.\nThe International Center for Responsible Gaming (ICRG) is a Preferred Provider with the International Problem Gambling and Gaming Certification Organization (IPGGC).\n\n\n  \nLearning Objectives\n\nTo identify the three facets of impulsivity (impulsive choice\, impulsive action\, and impulsive personality traits) and understand their relevance for gambling disorder risk.\nTo understand the longitudinal associations between different facets of impulsivity\, risky online sports betting behavior\, and gambling disorder severity.\nTo evaluate limitations of current etiological models\, and to explore implications for multifactorial prevention and intervention strategies.\n\n\n  \nFeatured Speaker\nDr. Anja Kräplin (she/ her) is a research associate in the Section of Systems Neuroscience at TU Dresden in Germany. She received her Ph.D. in psychology in 2014 and her habilitation in 2020. Dr. Kräplin’s research examines the etiology of addictive behaviors\, particularly cognitive control and decision-making processes underlying gambling and other addictive behaviors. She is also interested in translating research findings into evidence-based prevention and intervention strategies. Dr. Kräplin is committed to open science and transparent research practices. \n

Using case examples\, we will highlight challenges associated with suicide risk assessment with this population. We will provide with practical recommendations for comprehensive suicide risk assessment and intervention\, informed by recent clinical research findings. We will conclude with a call to action for those in healthcare\, public health\, community\, and gambling settings. \n  \nAttendees will earn 1 continuing education hour.
