Research supported by the ICRG is conducted by a number of leading scientists and new investigators in the field of gambling disorder. The ICRG oversees substantial, long-term gambling research programs at the ICRG Centers of Excellence in Gambling Research, which are currently located at the University of Missouri, the University of Chicago and the Yale University School of Medicine. The ICRG also manages a competitive grants program that allows investigators from prestigious institutions around the world to apply for grants for specific research projects.
In a process modeled after the National Institutes of Health, the ICRG's Scientific Advisory Board convenes an independent peer-review panel to evaluate applications submitted in response to the ICRG's initiatives.
The ICRG has been able to attract top investigators from the preeminent academic and research institutions in the country to the field. Among these institutions are Harvard Medical School, Yale University School of Medicine, Johns Hopkins University, Massachusetts General Hospital, University of Minnesota, University of Michigan, Washington University School of Medicine, and McGill University.
ICRG-funded research has yielded more than 400 scholarly articles published in highly competitive, peer-reviewed scientific journals including American Journal of Public Health, Psychology of Addictive Behaviors, American Journal of Psychiatry, Journal of American College Health, Journal of the American Medical Association, Annual Review of Public Health, International Clinical Psychopharmacology, Biological Psychiatry, Harvard Review of Psychiatry, Neuron and others.
